Village Hike

Hikers Descending

You will travel to Nevis via ferry (45 mins) then on to Peak Heaven by taxi to meet your guide. The hike starts with an introduction of the lush natural mountain vegetation, with particular focus on the plants used for medicinal and other purposes. We will encounter many such plants.

In the past the “Wise Women” of the village – in today’s terms practicing herbalist – were knowledgeable about the elements of plants and their derived benefits or disadvantages including which can cure and can kill .

The tea bushes were a firm favourite among village women who used a combination of wild mint, lemon grass and French sage to make a delicious cup of tea. Many plants, fruits, flowers and birds are encountered enroute and green vervet monkeys are frequently sighted frolicking in the trees.

At the end of the hike you are able to sit, relax and enjoy the views while being treated to samples of the bush teas. The only part of the tour you will not enjoy, is leaving.
